Hardware:
PC compatible, with colour monitor at 800 x 600 resolution or higher. A soundcard and speakers or headphones are required for some of the activities. The site has not been tested on MacIntosh or other non-PC platforms.

Operating System:
Microsoft Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, or higher. The site has not been tested on Linux or other non-Windows operating systems. Note: The site will not run properly under Windows ME with Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Browser:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher, or Netscape Navigator 4.73 or higher. The site has not been tested on other browsers. Internet Explorer 6 is highly recommended for best results.

Browser Plug-ins:
Macromedia Flash Player 6 or higher is required. Adobe Acrobat Reader 4 or higher is required for Assessors. Links for these plug-ins can be found on the CABS Online home page.

Special Browser Instructions:
1. Turn off page caching: For the site to function properly you must configure your browser to always retrieve pages from the CABS Online server, not from the browser's local cache. Browser-specific instructions are below.
2. Always use the provided links and buttons to navigate between pages and to close windows. Do not use the browser’s "Back" button or menu item. Do not close windows using the "x" button when a "Save and Close" button is available.
3. JavaScript (or "Active Scripting") must be allowed. Browser-specific instructions are below.

To Turn Off Page Caching:

For Internet Explorer 6.x (4.x and 5.x will be similar):
From the main menu, select "Tools" then "Internet Options..."
The Internet Options dialogue opens.
On the first tab ("General"), in the middle section ("Temporary Internet files"), click "Settings..."
The "Settings" dialogue opens.
Make sure the selected option under "Check for newer versions of stored pages" is "Every visit to the page".
Click OK on the Settings dialogue.
Click OK on the Internet Options dialogue.
Exit and reopen Internet Explorer to be sure the new setting is in effect.

For Netscape 6.x:
From the main menu, select "Edit" then "Preferences..."
The Preferences dialogue opens.
Click the triangle next to "Advanced" so more options will appear, then click "Cache".
Make sure the selected option under "Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network" is "Every time I view the page".
Click OK.

For Netscape 4.x:
From the main menu, select "Edit" then "Preferences..."
The Preferences dialogue opens.
Click the "+" next to "Advanced" so more options will appear, then click "Cache".
Make sure the selected option under "Document in cache is compared to document on network" is "Every time".
Click OK.

 

To Allow JavaScript ("Active Scripting"):

For Internet Explorer 6.x (4.x and 5.x will be similar):
From the main menu, select "Tools" then "Internet Options..."
The Internet Options dialogue opens.
On the second tab ("Security"), click "Custom Level..."
The "Security Settings" dialogue opens.
Scroll down to the "Scripting" section. Make sure the selected option under "Active Scripting" is "Enable".
Click OK on the Security Settings dialogue.
Click OK on the Internet Options dialogue.
Exit and reopen Internet Explorer to be sure the new setting is in effect.

For Netscape 6.x:
From the main menu, select "Edit" then "Preferences..."
The Preferences dialogue opens.
Click on "Advanced".
Make sure "Enable JavaScript for Navigator" is checked.
Click OK.

For Netscape 4.x:
From the main menu, select "Edit" then "Preferences..."
The Preferences dialogue opens.
Click on "Advanced".
Make sure "Enable JavaScript" is checked.
Click OK.
