Resources

In 2024 we supported Literacy classrooms by giving away school supplies! We provided classroom resources and learning tools including:

  • Dyslexia highlighters
  • Reading and activity workbooks
  • 25+ Tools of the Trades numeracy kits containing digital scales, measurement conversion charts, measuring cups, speed squares, tape measures and apprenticeship learning guides

Connections

In 2024 we made connections! We supported knowledge mobilization and service coordination by:

  • Hosting 5 networking events to connect Literacy services with Ontario Works and employment services
  • Facilitating 5 Community of Practice meetings for instructors
  • Coordinating training workshops including Bridges Out of Poverty,
    numeracy, ESL/LBS, and CAMERA assessment workshops
  • Participating on workforce and employability committees
  • Collaborating with Learning Networks of Ontario to share best practices
  • Promoting apprenticeship and skilled trades with social media, newsletters and building relationships with trades communities

Development

With a stellar team of writers, committees and partners we researched, revised, developed and created service plans, guides and resources including:

  • Report: Connected With Limited Access: Rural Connectivity and LBS
  • Literacy and Essential Skills Awareness Guide
  • 2 Literacy awareness tip sheets
  • Skilled Trades Helper curriculum and culminating task
  • Orientation to Literacy and Basic Skills Guide
  • 5 local Literacy Service Plans and one regional LSP summary report

A Vision of Empowerment

Literacy Link Eastern Ontario (LLEO) is a non-profit charitable regional support network for literacy and basic skills service providers in the Eastern Ontario region.

Our core activities are to develop connections, communications, resources and collaborations that support adult literacy and adult learning opportunities.

We act as a communication hub connecting adult literacy and basic skills services providers with services, resources, tools and training.

Our vision is that all adult literacy service providers will have access to the essential education and skill development tools that will support their learners in achieving their goals.

What We Do

  • Coordinate and facilitate regular network meetings for literacy service providers to promote a community of practice among literacy practitioners

  • Support service coordination in collaboration with workforce boards, Employment Ontario, and community partners in the region, and the rest of the province

  • Provide professional development and training for literacy practitioners including the bi-annual Conference for Excellence in Literacy

  • Develop educational resources and tools for literacy instructors and employers

  • Community literacy service planning at a regional level, bringing together community trends and challenges to guide LBS services

  • Connect literacy service providers and community stakeholders to develop enhanced  referral strategies

  • Educate the public and other key stakeholders about adult literacy

  • Coordinate and manage adult literacy development projects including workplace skills assessments and training for employers and employees to develop and improve workplace literacy including Skills for Success Organizational Needs Assessments. Contact us for details.

How To Get Involved

Join our Board: Literacy Link Eastern Ontario is seeking volunteers who are passionate about literacy and community service to join us as members of our Board of Directors. The Board member volunteers help us achieve our mission of empowering literacy service providers and learners in Eastern Ontario.
